B i o g r a p h y

Ástmar was born in Iceland.  After initial vocal studies with John A. Speight in Iceland he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied with Henry Cummings.  He continued his studies privately with Kenneth Woollam in London.


Ástmar has appeared widely in Britain, Iceland and Germany as a recitalist, in oratorios and opera.


He has appeared many times in concerts at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where he has performed all the major songs cycles of the Romantic era as well as works ranging from Henry Purcell to contemporary Icelandic composers.  


Ástmar has given several world premieres of songs by composers such as Graham Robb and John A. Speight.


Ástmar continues to perform as well as dedicating his time to teaching and conducting childrens choirs and has taken his choirs all over the Europe to great acclaim.
